The Ancient Roman origins of the administrative centre "Romans d'Isonzo" seems to be confirmed by several archaeological finds.
This area was inhabited in the early Middle Age too, as confirmed by recent excavation in the surrounding area that brought to light a Longobardic necropolis rich in archaeological finds.
