To this day, Castelmonte looks like a fortified sanctuary surrounded by defensive walls (strengthened by Iseppo Cantinella from Cividale in 1647) and towers, with the big church in the middle of the village, surrounded by monastic buildings and houses making up the borgo (hamlet).
