Patriarch Poppo of Treffen (1019-1042) was the author of one of the most important renovation plans of the Basilica of Aquileia. To Poppo we owe the Proto-Romantic style of the cathedral, the liturgical furniture and the huge bell tower (73 m high).

Climbing to the top of the bell tower is not exactly a piece of cake, but the view over the sea and the mountains is well worth it.
