Monastero: the early-Christian Museum
Home Ways Italian way First stage Monastero Photo 1
The small village of Monastero is at the end of the “Via Sacra” road. In its big square you will find a unique early-Christian museum. The premises of the museum are actually those of an early-Christian basilica renovated several times throughout the centuries.
Originally placed out of town, it belonged to a Benedictine monastery after which the small town has been subsequently named ("Monastero" means "monastery"). Some of the most interesting finds in the museum are the Christian grave inscriptions.
