Cividale: the bell tower

Noteworthy is the ancient clock showing the chiselled Italic hours (the last hour of the day corresponded to sunset) and an iron dial showing the hours used beyond the Alps (here the 24th hour corresponded to midnight).

On one side of the bell tower there is a sundial dated 1778. It was built by G. Barzellini, an astronomer from Cormons. This sundial was used to calibrate the imprecise clock of the bell tower.
